“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. “And you know the way where I am going.” Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know ……” John 14:3-5
Their first response is “No I don’t!” “I don’t know the way Lord!”
But He knows they do. He knows them better than they know themselves. He knows that in the moment it really matters, they’ll discover what is inside of them. He knows they can trust their own heart.
They DO know…. they know HIM, and He’s utterly trustworthy.
In these moments of self doubt, when we’re hit with the panicky thought “I don’t know if I know! I don’t know if I hear Him! I don’t know if I know the way!” The Lord Himself simply speaks the words…
“Yes you do. You know more than you think you know. I know what’s in you, and you DO know. You’ll be just fine.”
Sigh.
I often hear the Lord speak these kinds of words. He’ll ask me to comfort His people, and let them know that they do know the way, they do know His voice, they do know Him. He’ll ask me to speak to the depths of them and remind their soul of the riches they hold within. His passion is for us to be at peace. It often feels like He’s saying “Oh! If you could only see you the way I see you, you would have no doubt of what you could or couldn’t do!”
He sees us as we truly are. He knows what we know, and what we lack. He knows, and He has no doubt.
So the next time you get hit with a moment of self doubt, and like Thomas you fear.. “Lord! I don’t know the way!”
Hear Him speak those all powerful, sigh-inducing words…
“Yes you do.”
