Romans 8:26b “……..but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words”
The Spirit groans.
I’ve heard this scripture explained many different ways, but none have really satisfied.
I’m left with one simple reality.
We have a Holy Spirit within us….
and He groans.
What is He groaning about? What causes the groan? Does the groan communicate? Does it accomplish something?
I have no answers today. Just wonderment.
Wonderment about the One who groans.
Why does He groan? Is it pain? Is it sorrow? Is it war?
Romans 8: 23b “And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves,….
We groan.
We groan within ourselves, and He hears. Our heart cries, and He responds. Our soul sings, and He feels.
I think the most significant, profound spiritual realities are much too deep for words.
I want to be with Him in this too-deep-for-words place.
That place inside of me that aches, longs, and groans… is honestly mystifying. I could try to come up with some very spiritual sounding explanation of these longings, but what I’m sitting with today is the possibility that my groans, are actually His groans within me.
We’re groaning together.
I don’t really need to know why.
I’m just overwhelmed that I experience something
simultaneously
with the beautiful Holy Spirit of God.
Now that’s union.
